We'll navigate through the essential theme of spiritual authority, illustrating why borrowed power falls short and how true spiritual standing is cultivated through personal relationship with God. Using compelling biblical stories, such as the parable of the ten virgins, we'll highlight the importance of spiritual discipline, preparation, and vigilance. Gifts and talents, while valuable, don't equate to spiritual stature, which is built on humility and obedience.

People think that their gift elevates them above others but Jesus provided an excellent example of servanthood and He came to serve and not be served. Why is that so difficult for us to adopt? We'll discuss.

Speaker 1:

Now. I believe it was a week or so ago, I'm not even sure about the time here for you, but I had the intention to talk about a certain topic and I got excited. I'm preaching a little bit and, before you know it, off topic, totally off where I was trying to go to, but what came out was so awesome. Totally off where I was trying to go to, but what came out was so awesome. I invite you to check it out. Go and check out the episode entitled Foundations First. Oh man, I'm so proud of that. It was, you know, what I learned about in ministry especially, and I think maybe you see that in life in general, some of the best things that happen are unplanned. I'm just excited about that because some of the biggest blessings that have come through this podcast brand and on this microphone have been unplanned stuff. It wasn't in my notes, it wasn't where I want to go at in the scriptures, but what was in me is what was prioritized and it came out and I always hear the feedback man, that was such a blessing. It's exactly what I was thinking about, what I was dealing with, and I'm like, wow, I wasn't even planning that, but it's so awesome. So Foundation First is a great example of that. You probably can find it somewhere in the month of November, in the month of November. But check it out Apple Podcasts, iheartradio, spotify, pandora, amazon Music, wherever you listen to your podcasts at, or on YouTube or SoundCloud Cast on your social media platform. If you follow me on social media at theycallmemister, you got to follow me, though you won't be able to see it. So Facebook, instagram, linkedin, twitter, youtube, tiktok, you can find us wherever you're going to be listening to your podcast. But Foundation First, check it out Foundations First. Great example of what I'm talking about today.

Speaker 1:

I want to go into this topic. Couldn't get there, got shifted, I had a little spiritual detour, but it turned out to be so beautiful what came out of this. So I'm excited about you hearing that and hearing this. Today I want to talk to you about stature versus status. I'm going to try to stay on track today. I'm going to take my time and get this done, so I'm not postponing it for another week.

Speaker 1:

But first off, let's talk about the difference between stature and status. Now, I know on the surface they are used the same in our English vernacular. They may not be synonyms, but they're kind of close to each other and there's even a place where they even blend together or they kind of intermingle with each other, but they're not the same, especially in the way that the Lord sees it. Let's get into it. I try to break it down as best as I can without hopefully not confusing everybody. So give me some time, be patient with me, we'll get into this.

Speaker 1:

So first let's look at the word status. The word status is defined as the social, professional standing of someone or something. The social or professional standing of someone or something. It's attached to it Responsibility, esteem, privilege, things of that nature Sound like status, right, sound just like status. Stature is a little bit different. It's a person's importance or reputation based on their ability or achievement. Now, biblically, stature means something different than status. Biblically, it means a degree or level of achievement or development.

Speaker 1:

Wisdom and understanding of the soul is what Jesus walked in when he said. The Bible says he walked in stature. Luke 2, verse 52. Luke, chapter 2, verse 52. It says Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man. Now, bear in mind this is before he was anointed. He was anointed in Luke, chapter 4. But in Luke 2, the Bible says in verse 52 that he grew in stature and wisdom and in favor with God and man. What does that tell you? That tells you what. I'll tell you what it tells me. What it tells me is that, in the mind of God, he cares more about our stature than he does our status. He cares more about our stature than he does our status. What are we talking about? When his status? He was anointed publicly in front of everybody and began to walk in his gift, but the emphasis was on his stature, where he grew in wisdom, right outside of the gift. You grew in wisdom and understanding of the soul. You grew in development. That's more important than the status or the gift that you walk in.

Speaker 1:

Now. I know right now I probably lost a whole bunch of people because in their mindset, their anointing is the most important thing. It's all they care about how good they can play, how good they can sing, how easily they can lay hands on somebody and a person gets free or they fall out Not the same thing, but whatever. How great they can teach, how they can go for a whole hour without using their Bibles All this tomfoolery. But the Lord doesn't care about that. Yes, he anointed us and his gifts are irrevocable. Then, without repentance, he doesn't give them back, but it's not a priority for him. He cares about our development in wisdom. He cares about our growth and understanding of who we are as his children. He's more concerned about the reputation that we have in him more than the thing that we achieve in the areas of gifting.

Speaker 1:

Now, at this point, I'm probably falling over the crowd right now, because that's something that we don't get taught that very much. I'm not breaking new ground here. It has been done before. What I'm trying to say to you is that we need to understand the importance of stature over status.

Speaker 1:

The anointing is when you see people walking in their status. Oh, that person is anointed to do this, that person is anointed to do that, and they do it so well. God bless them. They do that so well, they play that organ so well, they teach so well. But God cares about the heart and the wisdom of the person more than he does the gift that they're being given. It's really important that we understand that, because people are living off of their anointing and thinking it's all about what they can do and who people see them to be and it's like, yeah, the Lord doesn't care about that. He cares about the heart of the person. He was always after the heart. The Bible says that man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart that's what he's concerned about and the heart. A lot of times it could just be a personal thing, but people are looking at their anointing and their gift and they're thinking it's about them, about what they can do.

Speaker 1:

I see people who jump out of order, and the Bible says in 1 Corinthians, 13 and 35, I believe it is that God does things decently and in order. People jump out of position, out of their area of authority to do something because they feel like doing it. Tell me where I lie. They do things that they're not not only in the night in position to do so, they're out of their lane entirely. But they think God's going to cover it and going to bless it because they're so great in their gift. To be honest, man, that's why people do a lot of what they do, because they're so gifted. It gives them almost this superhuman invulnerability that they can just do whatever they want to do and God going to just cover it. Because they're so anointed, because they sing like angels, because they play the harp like nobody's business, Because they can teach and call fire out of heaven. So they think that gives them carte blanche to do whatever they want to do.

Speaker 1:

Stature versus status. We can really start by asking ourselves are we in the right place? Are we where we're supposed to be? See, I know that you already have a decent understanding of what you are anointed to do, who you're called to be, what gifts you function in and what gifts you don't function in. I'm sure you have some kind of idea of that, at least generally speaking. If you don't, maybe somebody can help you out with that. I'd be happy to help you out with that, perhaps, or direct you in the right places if you need help. But are you doing what you're supposed to be doing? Is there an area that you're overlooking, that's keeping you from achieving a certain goal or obtaining a certain level of success in a specific area? Growth, level of success in a specific area, growth, healing, prosperity, personal and spiritual development. Are you in the right place?

Speaker 1:

When God asked Adam where he was, it wasn't because God was blind. You know, god can see Adam. Adam could have covered up with a whole mound of fig leaves, but God could still see he was there. He asked him where his position was. Why are you out of position? Where did you get lost? Where did you move from where I planted you to where you are right now? How did you get there? How did you go backwards when you were moving forward so well? Like the Apostle Paul would say, you were confident and bold and walking in authority, and now you're hiding in the bushes, trying to use leaves to hide behind. God was asking Adam about his position, his authority. Where was he? It's a terrible thing to be out of position with God. It's a horrible thing to be out of place.

Speaker 1:

There's a story that we talk about all the time, but I don't think we think about that in terms of us, of ourselves. I don't think we look at this in the mirror of the world that we should. The story about the seven sons of Sceva. I'm getting ready to go off book again. Here we go With the seven sons of Sceva.

Speaker 1:

What they were trying to do was cast out demons out of a person by using the name of somebody who they were associated with, not somebody who they actually knew, somebody who they were associated with, not somebody who they actually knew. They said by the name of the God of Paul, we cast you out and whether you ascribe to spiritual warfare or not, understand my larger point here, even if you don't. The demons responded back to him and said we know Paul and we know Jesus of Nazareth, but we don't know you. And it tore them, boys, up. It's a terrible thing to be out of position and not where you're supposed to be. And people think that the anointing I'm going to say this again until the cows come home, and even when they're home I'm still going to say it the anointing does not give you carte blanche to do whatever you want to do. I'm so sorry I got to put that out there so you understand. I don't want you to be lost and confused the anointing that gives you position or authority or carte blanche to do whatever you want to do. I quoted Luke 2, 52, where it says Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man.

Speaker 1:

Stature is considered currency in God's eyesight. It comes from a life of living, sacrifice, or sacrificial living, so to speak, by constantly yielding your will and your mind and your emotions to God's leading. What he's saying is more important to him than the anointing. It's more important to him than the gift. It's what you stand on when you're not functioning in your gift? What happens when you go home and you're under attack? How did your gift help you in that situation?

Speaker 1:

Say you were anointed to play the organ. You're being attacked physically at home with sickness. Suppose you can't sit up long enough to play the organ in your house, how does your gift help you? It doesn't. It doesn't help you and that's the whole point. There's a spiritual standing you need to have. It's good that you're anointed, don't get me wrong. You need the anointing, you need Holy Spirit. I agree with that. I understand that. But there's a certain standing you should have in the spirit realm. So, no matter where you are and what you're faced with, you can function and operate in what power and authority you should be walking in.

Speaker 1:

The Bible said that he's given us power over every serpent, every scorpion and over all the power of the enemy. In Matthew 17, 19 and 20, crazy story, check it out. It reads this way the disciples came to Jesus privately because they were embarrassed and said why could we not cast it out? So Jesus said to them because of your unbelief. For surely I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain move from here to there and it will move and nothing will be impossible for you this time. The disciples have done that before. Come to him privately. Why can't we cast this devil out? He would say this kind comes out by prayer and fasting. That ain't got nothing to do with your anointing. That's why most folks don't want to do it, and by most I mean most believers don't want to do it. Tell me where I lie.

Speaker 1:

Every time that a church calls a fast, you can hear a collective groan in the audience because fasting is something that people don't want to do, especially a lot of believers. They don't want to do that Asking to commit to praying for a whole hour every single day. They groan at the idea of that because they don't want to do that. Prayer and fasting are disciplines, and that's the key word in this whole thing. They don't want to be disciplined to do specific things to grow themselves and develop themselves spiritually. Prayer and fasting should be a hallmark for any believer, but for some reason, strangely enough, people run away from the idea of consistent prayer and fasting because it costs them something. It's the same kind of sacrificial living I was talking about earlier. That statue is all about how Jesus grew in statue. That's how he grew Through sacrificial living and through personal development and wisdom and wisdom.

Speaker 1:

If you don't want to pray and if you don't want to fast, you're not going to have the kind of spiritual standing you need to have so that when you are not on a platform with a mic in your hand or instrument in your hand, or you can't get to your keyboard to play because you're so under assault, you have spiritual standing to speak against those things and change the atmosphere, break the power of the assignment or the assault against you. That happens because of your spiritual standing, not because of the anointing and the gift on your life. Again, the gifts are not irrevocable, but they're not the reason why you have stature. Jesus has stature before he even started functioning in the giftings and the abilities, through the anointing, the healing and the deliverances. He grew in stature and wisdom because of his spiritual standing and the humility on his life, his desire to do whatever it was that God was saying to do so.

Speaker 1:

Every time you gripe against prayer and fasting, understand that you are rebelling against what God is saying for saying to do so. Every time you gripe against prayer and fasting, understand that you are rebelling against what God is saying for you to do and that limits your spiritual standing. And when you need something from the course of heaven, you find yourselves on the outside looking in, not able to achieve that and there's a prosecutor named Satan that's speaking against you in the course of heaven and has legal right to do so, because you rebelled against the thing that God told you to do. It's not hard to understand, it's not hard to figure out, but it's not about your status. I'm glad you are known, I'm glad you have gifts and abilities, but it's not about that. It's about your stature, the wisdom you have, the reputation that you've built because of your relationship with God, the humility that comes off of your life because of self-sacrifice. These things are really what I wanted to get to today.

Speaker 1:

I want to just drop a quick thought about Matthew 25, one of my favorite passages of Scripture. I want to just share something with you here because, along with the fact that my assertion here that the anointing does not give you carte blanche to do whatever you want to do and function however you want to function and I know I'm ruffling feathers and I don't care, I have to do that. But also, what's also not going to work for you and give you carte blanche is your relationship with other people. It don't matter who you know, who you are related to or who you're connected with. That don't give you carte blanche to do whatever you want to do.

Speaker 1:

We see that in churches all the time and people get hurt. People who are really coming to the churches for deliverance and healing. They leave and go back into their lives, into a worse state, because of people like you who may be doing that, who are using their position and their relationships, their social groupings, to wield power over other people that they shouldn't be wielding to enforce changes that they want to personally change. That God's not saying, that the authority of the house is not saying Relationship is important in stature. Jesus grew in stature because of his relationship, but not the way that we're talking about right now. There's a great separator in all that we're talking about between status and stature, and that's relationship, not the kind with your best friends and your buddies from school, but a relationship with God. I know people who I can't lie to you, they are skilled and anointed and very, very talented. But if you ask them to pray, if you ask them to teach out of a scripture, if you ask them to do anything that has to do with a discipline, they'll fall short and they'll stumble, because all they're gonna have to do is the gifts that they walk in and that's all they care about doing, because that's what people see, that's what they get notoriety for, that's where their status comes from and that's all they care about. Matter of fact, in some cases that's how they get paid at the church. They don't care about the disciplines that nobody sees, the private ones that God is watching for and, in some cases, not seeing in people.

Speaker 1:

Matthew 25, one of my favorite passages in scripture. Not because it's cool to talk about, it's very, very scary, but it's always a great barometer for me in case I get off off track in any way or if I get off kilter. That passage scripture brings me back. It's about the parable of the foolish virgins, 10 virgins in all. I'll paraphrase the story for you so we can go ahead and close the episode out for today. There were ten virgins. Five were considered wise and five were considered foolish. They all had the same education, the same basic starting point. They all had the same starting line, same education, same opportunities, same access being taught the same starting line. Same education, same opportunities, same access, being taught the same way, same understanding of what the assignment was. They all understood the assignment. They had totally different outcomes In the Bible.

Speaker 1:

The Bible said that five were wise and five were considered foolish. Why I'll go on and share that real quick. Were considered foolish, why, I'll go on and share that real quick? Because when the call came out for the bride, for the bridegrooms, for the bride to show up, for these maidens to show up for the great feast, if you will, five of them didn't have any oil in their lamp and they had to go a long journey and didn't have oil in their lamp. They weren't prepared. They knew what was required, they understood the assignment, but they didn't take the time to prepare and make sure they had what they needed. So when the time came, they'd be ready to perform function, operate as needed, as per their training, as per their disciplines. That's why they were considered, in the Bible's context, foolish, because they knew oil was required in their land for the long journey, but they didn't have enough. So what did they do? They tried to pull off somebody who was already prepared. Hey, y'all give me some of your oil. And they responded astutely no, if I do that, then I won't have enough for the journey, I won't be able to see where I'm going. So they had to go and get their own oil, I'm going. So they had to go and get their own oil. But then they came back, they missed the call and the door was closed upon them and they were not allowed entry. Look at that little Bible story if you want to.

Speaker 1:

But the big picture is, if you're not prepared, if you're not walking in proper understanding of relationship and why you're doing what you're doing and the purpose of that, and staying tied to what God is saying about your life and to you personally, you end up doing the outside, looking in. Relationship is all up in this, believe it or not, because of those five. They were wise, because they recognized that they had to do what they were called to do. They had to be obedient to what they were being told to do and they established relationship and they maintained it. They said you know what, no matter what, I'm getting to this location, I'm going to have all my ducks in a row. I'm going to be prepared because I really want to be in this place with the father. That's relationship.

Speaker 1:

People who are haphazard about that, they take shortcuts. They don't have all in their land to try to bum someone else and they don't care about the respect and the honor of the education that they were given. They were being told to learn the areas where they had to exhibit honor and integrity. They kind of made that optional as opposed to being a mandate for them. And that comes out of relationship.

Speaker 1:

If you really love God, if you really care about what he's saying to you, if you really care about what it means for your life to change and how much it should change in order to honor him appropriately, you'll make certain changes in your life. You do certain things. See, I ain't got a problem with the anointing and the gifts. That's all good, that's cool to me. But the problem is that people try to elevate that above what God is saying about you in the form of relationship. What he's requiring of you in relationship. He wants you to grow in stature. He wants you to grow in wisdom and personal and spiritual development, not relying on your gifts to try to get you over so you can be popular and anybody likes you. At the end of the day, that doesn't amount to a hill of beans. That doesn't mean anything. So I hope that makes sense from getting to stature and status. A little bit, I guess.

Speaker 1:

But the greatest separator in all this stuff is relationships. Ask yourself what separates you, if you consider yourself wise, from the foolish virgins? How are you different? What's the great separator here? Five were wise and five were foolish. What would the great separate in all this stuff? It's not just about a confession and who you say you are, who you're associated with. They were all associated with the same person. They all had the same education, same background, same basic tendency of living by. But the great separator was that five adopted a lifestyle of sacrificial living, not wasting their time and wasting their energy, but being prepared. And the other five said you know what? I'll put that off till later, procrastinated, as if it didn't matter and it cost them everything.
