Speaker 1:I'm not going to take a lot of time, but I want to kind of just help out some folks that are thinking about podcasting, some folks that have been honest about perhaps thinking about quitting podcasting. It's a strange world to do what we do. People might think that it's easy. You know, get a microphone, plug it into your laptop, press record and just talk nonsense. A lot of folks are doing that. Perhaps it is easy for them, but it's not easy when you have a purpose, when you have a plan, when you have a goal. That requires data, analytics, subscriptions, platforms, even monthly costs. So what we do, especially on this show, it takes a lot and it requires a lot of things. So all that you do for us, all the support, we definitely appreciate it. Please keep it coming. But here's a question I want to ask to all those friends of mine who are thinking about quitting their podcasts for various reasons and those that are thinking about starting a podcast for the first time. I'm going to ask a few questions here, some quick tips perhaps, and kind of just give you some thoughts about the world that you're getting into, or the world that you're in right now and you don't realize what's happening. So question does podcasting work in today's world?
Speaker 1:It's expected to reach 110 million people by 2029, which is only about five years from now. So the numbers are definitely ascending and rising. The pace is pretty medium, but it is rising in that potentially be a big push. This year alone, 47% of the podcast is 12 and up. People are listening to that. They listen to the podcast more than anything. 47% of the United States population. It's an all-time high. In actuality, the age group is pretty split, pretty even Everyone from from ages 12 to 25 and then from 30 to 45 and from 50 to up, staying around at 30% 35%. So they're growing. They all have their split age groups wise, but people are listening to the shows, listening to the podcast in general. There's a lot of good podcasts out there, a lot of good information, and there's some podcasts that, if you don't care about being serious and and life is just, you know it is what it is. There's a podcast out there for you. So the bottom line of that there's a podcast out there for everyone, depending on your pleasure, what you're looking for.
Speaker 1:Uh, to all my friends that are thinking about ending a podcast, I would just encourage you to think about why you started it in the first place. Because Because a lot of people get caught up in the numbers. Why am I not seeing the numbers I want to see on YouTube? Why am I not seeing the numbers on my social media platforms, on my downloads? Why am I not seeing the kind of numbers that people next to me that are doing podcasts are seeing? It's a really strange thing. There's no quick answers for that, but I would say stay the course.
Speaker 1:If you really believe that you starting a podcast was important, there was a purpose behind it. Ask yourself what do you want people to know? What do you want to learn from the experience? How will you grow it? What are you willing to do from a sweat equity standpoint? What kind of elbow grease do you want to put into your podcast? Are you willing to invest in yourself? Big listen, I'm learning about myself. Right now. I'm in that phase where I'm getting ready to start investing more, because I see a bigger picture beyond what we're doing right now. I have a larger goal. I got to start investing in me. I got to start growing and being more consistent in areas more consistent in promotion, more consistency in perhaps hiring people to help me with the show beyond the team that we're working with right now and just maybe kind of expanding. You got to start thinking about that kind of stuff and you got to definitely think about that.
Speaker 1:If you're talking about marketing or idea, or you're starting a podcast for a business, or even if you are doing it for fun, there are certain levels that you may want to go to, places you want to reach. I know a lot of people who are doing podcasts, that want to start a network, people who are doing podcasts and they're just enjoying it. They're doing it with a family member or best friend and they're just having fun and there's no pressure. They're in their basements or in their closets or in their man caves or she sheds and they're just doing podcasts and they're just having fun. It all depends on why you started it and what the purpose is. That word, again, purpose, is super important If you're struggling in the space, in the media space with your podcast.
Speaker 1:Talk to somebody who's been doing it for a while or somebody who is doing things maybe differently, and hear their perspectives. Ask them questions. Ask them why did you start it? Sit down and have a, take the time to find it out why they started. What are they noticing? What kind of challenges are they facing? And just ask yourself are you willing to take some steps? Are you willing to embrace some of the challenges that you might face?
Speaker 1:People talk about how radio is dying or is already dead. Radio was a huge part of my background, a huge part of the fabric of my upbringing. I mean, radio was huge to me and I know a lot of people who are in my age group. They love radio still. They remember what radio used to do for them Maybe all of the bad, negative spaces that radio, I guess, became a welcome distraction from the harsh realities of their life. Radio was incredible to me. It still is.
Speaker 1:I love radio. I still listen to radio. It's in a different iteration but I still listen to me. It still is. I love radio. I still listen to radio. It's in a different iteration but I still listen to radio. When I'm in the car driving. I still listen to radio, sometimes on the computer if I feel the urge. I have radio on my computer. I still love it. Radio on my television set, radio is everywhere still, so it's not really dying in my opinion. But I understand what people are trying to say. Podcasting is kind of in the same. It's in the same vein. It's always going to have a place, the same way as radio I mean 8-tracks might be my struggle to find a place for 8-tracks nowadays your 33s and your 45s some folks are still making a way for that. They still love the records and having them on a record player and the sound that the record player produces. They still love that. I'm all about that. The podcasting world. It has a place and it does work in today's world. I just want to encourage you guys that are thinking about starting a podcast or maybe perhaps you're struggling with the one that you have right now and you're wondering if it's worth it. I'm going to say yes, it's just one person's opinion, it's your friend's opinion, but I'm going to say yes, there is room for podcasting in today's world.
Speaker 1:The important part is you staying authentic. That's the most important part. That you stay authentic, that you stay true to who you are and why you started doing this. If you're doing podcasting because you love fantasy sports, stay true to that. Don't linger off into other areas. Just keep doing that, because there's a market for it. People love fantasy, people love to bet on games, people love to speculate which team's going to win and do fantasy pools and stuff of that nature. Stay true to who you are. If you love a particular sport and that's what you want to do and it's where your heart and your passion is, stay in that vein. Podcast about that sport, bring in guests, bring in poll questions and talk about that particular sport and stay there, hang in that place. Then, if you do a variety of different things, kind of like what we do on our show, excuse me, stay in that realm.
Speaker 1:We do a lot of different things because we call ourselves the All Purpose Pod for an all-purpose life. We care about the whole person, so we kind of focus on the whole person. We talk about gardening on this show. We have YouTube videos about our garden and tips. We talk about marriage and relationships. We talk about that kind of stuff on our show as well. We talk about everything from some sports, mainly football, but in the off season we talk about every sport. For the most part we do that on our show. We talk about a number of different things. We talk about life stuff, developing life skills, sometimes stuff about raising your children. We talk about things about what it means to be in a blended family. We talk about all kinds of things on our show and we like that because we just a whole person things that the every man deals with and may struggle with. So we love doing that stuff. So that's our vein, that's kind of where we hang out, that's our little niche.
Speaker 1:But find yours, find your niche, stay authentic to that. You don't have to give your podcast up. Unless it's costing you money and you're not seeing a recruitment from it and it's causing you challenges with your household finances. You gotta think about that stuff and kind of lean back and say is this worth my time and effort? But if it's not hurting you and you just kind of discouraged about numbers and analytics, don't be. Just keep on being true to you. People who like what you're doing and they find it to be authentic and they find it to be a help to them. They're going to hang with you, they're going to stay involved. They're going to hang with you. They're going to stay involved. They're going to stay with you. So hope that helps out.
Speaker 1:Let me talk to you guys offline If you have any more questions about podcasting. I have a lot more information that I can share with you guys, a lot more tips, perhaps where you can host your podcast Different things that people have asked me about. I don't want to do that over the air, so I just want to let you know that I want you to stay encouraged. Reject me offline. I'd be happy to help you out wherever you may be in regards to your podcast and journey. Perhaps I can help you out Wherever you are and however you're listening today. Call me Mr you, the podcast and the Inspiration Station. We thank you once again for being a part of your week. Have a fantastic day. We love what you're doing and we're going to support you any way that we can. Thank you for supporting us in kind. Have a great day. Enjoy the music while we're out. Bye.
