So we're excited to be back with you guys and we always have fun stuff to talk about. This would be no exception. We're in a time where we're in the holiday season and people are going out of town, they're flying, they're driving, they're on cruises, they're just having time for themselves, enjoying family and friends, and they're going on vacation. I think that's a word that so many of us are recognizing more now than ever, with all of the struggles and challenges in life, how much we need it and we can't get around it. But I'm excited to hear what we have in store in this conversation. So for you, what was your favorite vacation of all time?
Speaker 2:New York.
Speaker 1:New York? Ok, that's my hometown. Why was that your favorite vacation of all time?
Speaker 2:Well, the second time that I went with you vacation of all time Well, the second time that I went with you, well, I think it was the third time. But when we were there, we was out, walking the streets and just being able to experience the snow while we were walking around. That was my first time ever. I loved it. I could do it again. I could do it again. That was my best time. And just to enjoy that time out, and, you know, hold my head back and let the snowflakes fall in my face.
Speaker 1:Oh my goodness, Like a little kid, huh, yes, that is pretty awesome. I can't say that was my first time. Of course I'm from New York, so I've seen snow more times than I can imagine, but I'm sure more than folks that live in the South would probably see in their entire lifetime. And for me, that first experience with the snow I was a kid when it happened. I was super over the top making snow angels and letting the snow face fall in my mouth too. I did all of that stuff too, I get it.
Speaker 1:So when you were happy about it and rejoicing in it, I was doing the same thing with him, like, yeah, I get it, I, I get what. This is a big deal, but that vacation was really, really awesome. It was probably one of our first real trips together as a family and it was a chance to kind of, uh, step out into, I guess, new territory for us, but then, of course, showing you guys where I came from, what it was like for me growing up that before it was during the summertime when we went with the kids, but that was when you and I went this was after yes, this was after and the reason why I enjoyed the snow so much.
Speaker 2:I couldn't do that here because we always had sleep and that burns.
Speaker 1:So sleep's not fun.
Speaker 2:No, no, not at all, but no, that was when you and I went. This was after. We were empty nesters and we went.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that was a lot of fun, though, because I really wanted you to. Stories don't always tell you the whole picture. Sometimes I share a story, too, about how I grew up and what it was like, but seeing it it's just a whole different story, and I was glad you got a chance to see that one. I don't know if that was my favorite vacation, though we can chat in a little bit, you know but I think one of the things that I think you and I figured out and maybe you guys Wouldn't mind sharing with us your favorite vacation, when you went If you got pictures, That'd be great. You can post them on our Social media platforms. Wherever you see this episode For this show Simulcast it.
Speaker 1:Share the pictures, Share the experiences Of what you did on your vacation, who you went with, what you do, why you went, how often you go and what you learned about it, Because I think that's one thing that I think was a big deal for us what did we learn from the vacation? People don't want to deal with heavy stuff like that, but I feel like it's important because if it's just about you getting rest and getting away from your kids or getting away from your job or whatever else in life you got going on. It's really short-sighted. There's so much more that you can gain from that than just getting away from your challenges in life and just kind of having an escape, and I think that's one of the reasons why my favorite vacation was Panama City Beach. I know I share pictures about it a lot. I'm still doing that. There's still often profile pictures on my social media platforms. I'm sorry, I just can't get past it. It was just one of the greatest vacations I think we ever had, and we haven't had many of them, Unfortunately. We've been married almost 29 years and we have had probably enough vacation that you can count on one hand probably, and that's nobody's fault. It's nothing to give us pity about. It's just decisions that we made and we're learning from that and we're growing and we're taking more time for us. We're learning how to rest in this season, which is an incredible lesson, a powerful lesson, because we're known to. We have kind of that A-type personality. We go, go, go and we drive, drive, drive. It's like wow when you're going to slow down and take some time for you. You know, take time to smell the flowers. I mean, those little things sound corny, but they really are important because it gives you perspective. It kind of helps you see your situation a little bit differently when you're not in the midst of it. We'll talk about that in a little bit too. But my favorite vacation hands down has to be Panama City Beach. I don't know how you felt about it, but well, I kind of do know how you feel. But there's probably more you can share. But for me that was a big deal. Part of it was it was twofold how we and correct me if I miss anything here with this but I think part of it was twofold because the vacation, the idea, was that one.
Speaker 1:We were in some rough times in that season and we needed a break, real bad Matter of fact, we were desperate for a break. We were going hard in life, in work, in ministry, in family, and it was just like we got to get out of here for a little while and kind of catch our breath. You know, recoup, get our mind right, just have a break. And for some of you we can talk about this later on in the episode about staycations. But that wouldn't have helped us. We couldn't have stayed in this area and been able to really rest, so we had to get out of here and there's something powerful that happens to that with us and we noticed this. Maybe this is not for you guys, but this is something that we just wanted to share that we thought was pretty insightful.
Speaker 1:Whenever we leave out of our home area to go on vacation or to take even if it's a business trip or we are we doing something outside of where we live we always gain a measure of personal growth. Yes, Did that make sense? Did I sound right? Excuse me, we always have a measure of personal growth. Yes, Did that make sense? Did that sound right? Excuse me, we always have a measure of personal growth. When we do that, we see something that we didn't realize. We learn something that we didn't realize before.
Speaker 1:Matter of fact, I'll tell you a quick story. It wasn't really a vacation, but it was just kind of the first time I'd ever seen it. One of my aunts she passed away in New York many, many years ago and we were part of a ministry. We were experiencing a lot of challenges. We had some questions about where things were going and the leadership and we were wondering if we were in the right place. A lot of bad stuff was really happening and we didn't know if we were just in the wrong place or we needed to pray harder. We didn't know what to do, but when I went out of town, my wife and I had to go and, in effect, bury my aunt.
Speaker 1:It was kind of.
Speaker 1:It wasn't a vacation, but it was an opportunity to get out of our area and the amount of revelation that I received in this idea, the dreams and the clarity of the dreams and the visions, even, and the clarity of the dreams and the visions, even, and the clarity of the visions when I left out of this area well, out of the area that we lived in at the time, to go and be in I was in New York, I was back home, but to get out of that region, to get out of that area, it provided so much perspective and we were able to make some real, solid decisions, make some changes that affected our family for the better in the long term, Excuse me and we were able to take some steps in our spiritual growth. I think, yes, I mean, and that was the first time I experienced that you know, when you leave out of your home area, what can happen, and I don't know if you've seen that in other time before that, but that's one of the first places where I saw it. How about you?
Speaker 2:Yes, that time I think that was the benchmark of what we do when we leave out of our area. We noticed that when we left here, all of the cares, all the concerns, all the things that bombard us whether it was what's on the news, what we do on a day-to-day basis all of those things they became a weight to us and learning how to like when we get in the car, we'll start speaking over our life and praying. You know that every care, every concern, everything that we have going on in this place, that if we don't supposed to pick that up when we come back, that we will find that freedom where we leave out of this territory. And you know that's one of the things we began to pray. And while we're at that place of vacation, we would talk and kind of talk through some of the things that we're not going to do when we go back, because we saw that that wasn't beneficial and it didn't help us and it was an extra weight added to us that we didn't need Absolutely, absolutely.
Speaker 1:Even though I'm in in my Bible read, I'm in the Old Testament and I'm reading all the chronicles of the judges and the kings and there's a certain phrase that kind of repeats itself even from the book of Judges all the way up until the chronicles and the kings, and it talks about having peace in the land and having rest in the land from war and from opposing nations trying to overtake you. And I'm like there's so many ways that in those scriptures that the Lord told the leaders and the judges and the rulers that you know they would have victory in war, they have victory over the nations that are opposing and they will take territory and take land for the name of God and those kind of things. But every time the Lord speaks to these individuals, whether it be the prophets or the kings themselves, he always speaks to them, no matter how much he's saying correction-wise, whatever it is, he always includes I will give you peace, I will give you rest. And I love it Because it tells us that even if the kings have to value rest and peace, why don't we? Why don't we value, if kings that have rulership over nations and kingdoms a vast amount, spreading for miles and miles. If they have to value rest and peace, why don't we value it? And that's kind of where I want to go with this when we talk about vacation, because, excuse me, what I feel is, though, is that what we learned also is that we have to learn how to rest, and honestly and this is kind of embarrassing to say this out loud in front of everybody but my whole podcast has been about that for the past four years.
Speaker 1:I'm saying I'm revealing myself in to the world, so to speak, but I feel like I'm just learning how to rest, and that's kind of sad to be at the age I am, and I'm just learning how to rest After all these years that the word rest has been inside a dictionary. It ain't been hidden. People around me probably have been resting, but I'm just learning, in the past couple of years, literally how to rest. I don't mean avoid situations I need to be dealing with. I'm just learning, in the past couple of years, literally how to rest. I don't mean avoid situations I need to be dealing with. I don't mean being lazy and just sitting in a chair because I don't want to do anything in life. I'm talking about, be focused on what I have to be taking care of, be diligent about that, but understand when your body's talking to you and when you know you have to rest. And I don't know if you want to speak to that, but it just it's something for me. I'm just learning how to to deal with you know. I mean I'm just learning how to really respect that and take it seriously.
Speaker 1:There've been times where I mean I don't get sick often, whenever I get under the weather, it's usually a big deal and it takes me a good while to get through it and I'm like why is this happening? You're talking about immune system and all that kind of thing. Learning how to rest is a big deal and we're still on vacation. We haven't left that. I just want to kind of put that out there because it's all kind of a part of why we value it so much. You know, I'm learning how to rest and take care of my body, give my body the rest that it needs. Sometimes sleep is short for me, but I have to learn how to get sleep where I can and value that and take care of my immune system and take care of my body overall and my mind, blocking out things that may cause me stress and anxiety and continually invite God's peace into my situation. But do you want to share about rest a little bit?
Speaker 2:Yes, I can't say I do about rest a little bit. Yes, I can't say I do that very well, I'm learning even to rest my mind. I'm a thinker and I think a lot, I dream a lot and it's it's a lot. So I'm trying to learn how to rest my mind and I'm learning that when I discipline myself and do the things like I, daily I write out a list of things I'm going to complete, and when I complete those things and I stay on task, I'm learning how to rest because of getting those things done, I don't have to hold all those things in my mind or what I need to do, and so that's how I'm learning how to rest, by, like you said, you know, doing preventative things with your immune system and all of the things that you do. Those prevent you from being able to carry the weights that we carry on a day-to-day basis, right?
Speaker 1:right.
Speaker 2:So when we let go a lot of those things, when we complete a lot of the tasks and the things that's on the checklist, we know what it means to rest at night. We get good sleep. You know we sleep well and that's what I'm learning. When I write that list and check it off, I'm able to do that.
Speaker 1:Absolutely. I love this and these are all things that have been important to our little process. And you know, even in constructing the episode, I was like you know what does vacation even mean, excuse me? And vacation? In terms of the dictionary, it's defined as an extended period of leisure and recreation, especially time spent away from home. But what I love about the definition another one I found is time specifically set aside for enjoyment. It is a vacation definition that I love the most. That's the one A time set aside for, for a time specifically set aside, excuse me, for recreation, relaxation and enjoyment. That's the part that I feel like I was missing.
Speaker 1:I would take little breaks and do little things. Oh, let's take a drive, you know, but it was not. But I'm mad at people on the road because of how they drive it and I'm stressed out. It's not really a vacation. I'm just taking a little break, but I'm learning now to take vacation. Honestly, I'm loving out. It's not really a vacation. I'm just taking a little break, but I'm learning now to take vacation.
Speaker 1:Honestly, I'm loving spending time in hotels. I don't know what that's about, but I'm like, put me in it and we go to some nice hotels. We ain't going to, no, I ain't going to say no names of hotels that are not nice, so you can figure it out for yourself. But the ones that are nice, that's where we're at. We ain't doing it often, but that's where we are. We spend three, four days in some nice hotels and sometimes we up in there just sleeping yes, big fluffy pillows and chilling and guess what? We're doing? Nothing, yes, and sometimes that's what we need and it's been the best rest in a lot of cases that I've had in years.
Speaker 2:What you got, Some in a lot of cases that I've had in years, what you got. Some of the things that I like the most is when we get the hotel or the room that we can cook in.
Speaker 1:Oh, yeah, the suites, suites, baby.
Speaker 2:And we fix dinner together and we just chill. I love it. That's my favorite.
Speaker 1:I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it and that's the kind of thing that it's been life-changing for us and vacation is really important. I think the part about the definition, about specifically setting time aside, I think that's where we fail and I don't mean us, I mean just in general. That's where we fail at we don't take the time to plan, we don't take the time to prepare. A lot of you that are listening right now. You have set vacations every year. You know where you're going. You're going to Florida every year, or in the spring, in March or April, you're going to a certain place. You know where you're going. You had to set it's a family vacation, it's a plan every year.
Speaker 1:But many of us don't have such plans. We figure it out as we go along and if we get one in, we do, and if we don't, we get to the whole end of the calendar year and we find ourselves busted and disgusted and sad and broke down and distressed because we hadn't taken the time specifically set aside, the time that we need. And I mean in your personal life you can do that same thing. I don't care if it's your prayer time, if it's your time in the Word, even fasting and consecration. All those things are time specifically set aside, and God blesses that because it's a sacrifice and you're planning and you're taking into account everything that should matter to you in life, the way that it matters in life, and for me, vacation should be something that we plan.
Speaker 1:I know that that's another area where I have failed In years past. I haven't planned for it. I've kind of, you know, spurred a moment, let's go here, instead of really planning it out, getting the money saved up, looking at the itinerary where we're going to go. We're doing more of that now and it's a lot better than it was. So I'm excited about that, but that's kind of where we've been.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I just wanted to say that you know a lot of times like when you are on a job and you let your days roll over to the next year because you didn't take them.
Speaker 2:Oh yeah, you allowed to do that. Um, sometimes we do work like that or projects like that and we don't take the time out to plan for that vacation. We let it roll over out to plan for that vacation, we let it roll over, and then we have all this stuff piled on us from the year before and the year to come and we break those agreements or the vows that we made over ourselves because we're letting the work roll over, and that's not good. So that's why I think the vacation is something really important, because I didn't grow up ever knowing about a vacation.
Speaker 1:Oh, wow.
Speaker 2:The only thing that we did. We went to Myrtle Beach for a church trip, because my dad was a pastor and we did a church trip and that was on a weekend, and you come back Saturday, you go that morning, sunday you go back and you go back to your same routine, even in the summertime. That was time to clean, that was time to do yard work, that was time to do projects. There was no, even no, staycation, you know. So didn't know what that was. So that was my life.
Speaker 1:I am not sure I even know what that is right now. I'm not sure I know what that is right now, to be honest with you, but we can talk about that in a bit. But just to recap for those who are listening to the show and you're jumping on right now, we're talking about vacation do's and don'ts, why vacation is important. What's your favorite vacation? What made it the best for you? Share it in the comments, wherever you find this episode. We'd love to hear your stories and even if you have pictures and photos, that'd be great too. Love to share those with you guys and hear what your favorite vacation is and why it was the best. But we're talking about vacation, what it actually means, definitions and why it's important to us. We're really figuring out now that the vacation symbolizes for us rest, recuperation, kind of Gaining a new perspective on the life we left behind for a few days To kind of get an idea of where we're at. For me, like I said, my best vacation Hands down was Panama City Beach. I talk about it. I think the queen is tired of hearing about it Maybe, but it was so, so good. Like I said, it was at a time when we needed to have a break and it was a bit of a journey. We could have tried to fly and do all kinds of stuff, but we drove, loved it. We drove and if you've ever been to Panama City Beach before, especially coming from Charleston, you're going to take the scenic route and that means that you're going to see a whole lot of land and cows and trees and maybe even some beaches and things of that nature. But you're going to see the scenic route and it's a good drive. It's probably about somebody's work day. It would take you to get there, but we enjoyed it earlier that morning and we enjoyed it. We needed it desperately. We need that nice hotel with the suite Like Queen was talking about earlier. That's a bonus for us. Man. Put us in a suite where we can cook our own food and have to buy junk from out in the street. Guess what? It's awesome. The bed was awesome, everything was awesome, yes, even the atmosphere in the area. It was a little bit warm that year was in April, but it was fantastic.
Speaker 1:We also had opportunity during that time. You see some of the pictures on our social media platform. You'll see, especially on Facebook. You'll see a lot of the pictures. We had probably a bunch of pictures or more already on Facebook of a smooth jazz concert that we went to while we were there. I think it was a four-day concert. It had some of our smooth jazz favorites and some folks that we didn't know that became new favorites. He gave us a chance to hit some nice music, meet some folks from all around the world, literally all around the country, yes, and it was just awesome. I mean, like I said, it was hot, so you got to kind of factor that in when you do vacations in the spring, especially in Florida, but it was really hot, very hot as a matter of fact, but we enjoyed it so much. I mean it was time we had to rescue the mall because it was so hot. We came to catch no heat stroke out here, but it was really good.
Speaker 1:Man, I probably gained a lot of revelation about my life and who I am as a person and who I need to be, who I need to become. It's about my marriage and the ministry God called me to. I learned all that stuff at the beach. That was not the plan. I didn't expect that to happen, but that time away, especially in a location like Panama City Beach. If you've ever been there before, you get what I'm saying. There's a lot of things that will be really awesome to behold, a lot of nice tranquil settings, especially at the beach. But there's a lot that things that will be really awesome to behold, a lot of nice tranquil settings, especially at the beach. But there's a lot that will cause you to pray.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Because financially, they're not in the best situation locally Because they had a really big storm that came through, a really big hurricane that came through and decimated the city, so they're even still rebuilding years later. Yeah, decimated the city, so they're even still rebuilding years later. So there's a lot to be desired financially there, but there's a lot that you know will prompt you and prompt us to pray, but it was such a blessing to be a part of that, yeah it was really nice.
Speaker 2:I um. One thing that I loved in spending time there was that um to see how you enjoyed yourself, because that's something we talked about for years going to one of the jazz concerts a lot many years yes, and every time you plan to do it, something would happen, because it wasn't really a plan set in place that's true.
Speaker 2:And so, after some major things happened in our life to make us look at life from a different perspective, we made a plan to do that and it showed us how important it is to plan, to just relax, just to reflect, just to do inventory on our life and where we are. Like you said, you learned a lot of lessons there. You learned things that you know you needed to change, things that even we know we needed to change and goals we needed to set, because, are we satisfied with life? I don't want to ever leave and go on vacation and come back the same way, falling into the same cycle that we have before. I'm so glad that that has changed in our mind, as well as we taking action on it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and bear in mind it's not my intention to try to Christianize vacation.
Speaker 2:No.
Speaker 1:I'm not trying to church and ease this thing, but it's going to be really weird to me going forward, and hopefully it's. I hope it's weird for you that when you go on vacation that you don't come back a little bit different than the way you went. If you go on vacation, you come back doing the same thing, back in the same rhythms, back in the same system, same mindset, same behaviors. I think there's a problem there and it's not because of how nice the place you go to. That could help a little bit to see the world from a different view. If you go on vacation in Greece or in Italy or maybe in Jamaica somewhere I mean seeing those things for the first time it should change your perspective on the world around you. Let you see, you know what. There's so much more world out here than what I see in my own little zip code, you know. So you should be changed in some kind of way.
Speaker 1:But I feel like every vacation should change us some kind of way. We should be, because if you're resting and taking the time to do you and kind of get away from all of the rigors of your busy life, you should come back changed. You should come back refreshed, maybe more positive, seeing things in a better light. I ain't trying to Christianize it, man. I'm just saying that it should change you to some kind of degree. It's scary when that doesn't happen, when you go on vacation for days and you come back and you're the same grumpy, dissatisfied, negative person. Something's wrong. Why'd you even leave? That reminds me of when we went on a cruise.
Speaker 2:Oh, wow. And we spent that time out on the deck, oh man, sitting under the stars and just sunbathing and all the things that we did. That was so awesome. It made me appreciate my back door, my outside, in my backyard, a little bit more. I enjoyed it.
Speaker 2:You know, I didn't take the measures that I could have to protect my skin or those kind of things protect my skin or those kinds of things but just planning for that. Now, you know, in whatever we do the cream that we put on our skin and all those things it just like you said it's it could be those little things that change and that change for us how to take care of ourselves, how to be able to appreciate what we have. Because if we just stay inside all the time and we talk about, how I used to say, I'm bored, I'm just tired of being in the house, and then I'll go spend money that I shouldn't spend because I shouldn't have been going to the store. But now I can just go and enjoy my backyard. I can sit out there, I could sing, I could talk, I could play in the in the soil, do something in the garden. It just made me appreciate more just being able to enjoy and relax out being on the ship. I loved it. I want to do it again soon.
Speaker 2:But, Alaska this time.
Speaker 1:That was funny. That was funny for us. We went to the Bahamas right out of Charleston and it was so funny because you guys probably cruised 50 times and that was our first one.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 1:Very early in our time living out here and, man, we saw all the things on the cruise that I guess you would expect to see. We had the turbulence where a fool was flying across the deck and, because we were rocking so much, people were getting queasy and they were up chucking everywhere and having to use Dramamine because they were like all messed up because of the Rocky water. We seen everything. We seen everything you can think of on a cruise. We had fine dining on a cruise. We had public communal food. We tried, we did, we seen dances and concerts on the cruise.
Speaker 1:We, we, we, we experienced it Went to Bahamas and did excursions and stuff. We did everything and it was really good, because another time was that we needed this so much to kind of get away and kind of experience some things and it let us see the world in a different light and it kind of got us hungry. We had that taste in our mouth like, oh man, so you mean there's life outside of this city. Yeah, we can do some other stuff. It's over now. We got a taste of it now. We can't get rid of it now. Now we want to do stuff all the time.
Speaker 2:Yes, I mean because even you know, just experiencing that first morning when we got there, well, the first night that we slept and you woke up, and got ready to make up the bed.
Speaker 1:Well, yeah.
Speaker 2:And you said, oh, I don't have to do this, I'm on vacation. So you took the cover and you threw it up in the air.
Speaker 1:That was weird for me because I'm a bed maker. But no, that was funny though, but that's really true. I was like, wow, I had to make the bed.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:No, that was funny though, but that's really true. I was like, wow, I had to make the bed. Yeah, I mean, I had to cook. I'm like I had to cook. Yes, I was like, oh, this is crazy. I'm getting fine dining up inside, I don't have to cook. That was crazy to me.
Speaker 1:But If you're jumping along with us, we're talking On vacation here what's your favorite vacation? What is your favorite vacation? What made it the best? Drop it in the comment section, wherever you find this episode.
Speaker 1:So we're excited about this and we've been talking about it a little bit and it's like I feel like, no matter where you go and with your vacation, like we have vacations that were not great. Oh gosh, yes, we had some bad ones. We had roaches in the bed we were staying at. Yes, I mean, we, we had some not so good ones.
Speaker 1:But one of the things I always want to take away from vacation and we're doing that a lot more now because we're growing and we're figuring some stuff out but do you take the time on your vacation to hear, do you take time to listen? Do you take time to rest? Some folks are taking time away from God on vacation. They say you know what I'm doing stuff in ministry I ain't doing nothing. I ain't reading my Bible. I'm not doing, I'm not. I'm not doing nothing on vacation. It's like. Is that the kind of vacation that God is looking for from you? I think that's a mistake there, but we can talk about that. But what I'm just saying is that during vacation it's still a prime opportunity. It's a very good opportunity away from your distractions in life to take time to hear, to listen, to learn how to rest.
Speaker 1:I mean, we've had some vacations that were not great. We had a vacation in Hilton Head where I think we knew we were going to have a meeting with some folks about marketing, but I didn't realize it would be a full court, press and timeshares and all kinds. I'm like, oh wow, what is happening? So I'm not advocating doing any of those things, but we took vacations wherever we can find it. But the ones that were the best vacations for us like we stated, the ones going back to New York and then, of course, the one at Panama City Beach earlier this year those were the best because we planned them.
Speaker 1:Yes, we worked out what we were going to do and how we were going to do. We had some level of itinerary and we knew that you know what, on this time of this day, we're going to sleep in which is a word we never use nowadays and we're going to sleep in which is a word we never use nowadays and we're going to sleep in and rest and kind of just enjoy some time together. We'll go shopping, or we'll go spend time cooking in the suites making some meals for our time. You know just little things that we plan out, and it made it such a blessing man yeah, I, um, I know, excuse me when you said about some bad things what you're about to talk about, what you about to say.
Speaker 2:That first time that we went to the mountains and we had roaches coming out of the air vent in our bed and we jumped them and we had to go to the rental office and we told them you know we can't do this. So they gave us our money back and we end up sleeping in the truck that night because we couldn't find a place. But that next day, you know, I'm just glad that you know we had just been married. I don't think we was married a year.
Speaker 1:She stayed with me. You know I wrote it in the bed. She still stayed with me.
Speaker 2:That's love me, y'all and uh had roaches in the bed. She still stayed with me. That's love right there. But um, when that happened, you know, it just really um, it really made us just see who one another was. You know, we didn't go off on nobody, none of that, you know, we just shifted and the way we shifted it was really cool and the next morning we was able to make plans of what we wanted to see happen the next year of our marriage and the first year. You know, we just really took advantage of that time and that was just so beautiful, even though the crazy happened and I was scared to get out the truck because we was too high up on the mountain.
Speaker 1:That was funny.
Speaker 2:Yes, but we had such a good time and even with doing that, having the bad day, you know I just think back to, you know, doing the pandemic and all that time, how we did staycations. You know, even that that was fun. You know, I would take the card table and dress it up and put it in the garage and we'll have dinner there instead of at the dining room table or you know, whatever it was.
Speaker 2:You know just yeah, we're weird y'all, just in case you didn't already know that, but yeah just changing up things a little bit, put a blanket on the floor and have a picnic, you know those kind kinds of things, that's. That's been really sweet and I'm, I'm loving taking advantage of that little bit of time that we can block off and, you know, enjoy one another and reflect on our life and do some changes that wait to something drastic happen, like like we let in the past, but taking advantage of that time and start, you know, taking some of the pressures off and changing our minds about how we're doing things.
Speaker 1:Absolutely A lesson. Absolutely, vacation is about planning. It's about preparation. It's defined as time specifically set aside for enjoyment and relaxation. So what's your favorite vacation? What made it special?
Speaker 1:While you're there, do you take the time to hear? Do you take the time to listen, take the time to rest and reset? Do you take the time to do that, or are you just ignoring your problem for a little while to go back to them with the same perspective and mindset you had before you left? Before we close out the episode for today, a few vacation do's and don'ts that we're going to share with you guys, and hopefully they help you out on your journey when it comes to adding vacation to your yearly itinerary. We hope we can help out with that.
Speaker 1:One vacation do I would say is, of course, again to plan, plan a location, research what's going on in that location, is it a safe place for you to go on vacation at, take the time to look at how long you're going to be there. What are things you can do together, as a couple or as a family, and plan it, even if things change in your plans. That's okay, but the best thing that we've ever done in life is that we planned, even if the plans change, or God even changes our plans. The best thing that we've ever done in life is that we planned, even if the plans change over. God even changes our plans. The best thing is that we had a plan in the first place. So now we've got our mind going. We know that we have to, you know, start thinking ahead a little bit, and it's been a blessing to us, not only in vacation, but also in life. How about a vacation? Don't? Do you have one in mind, something you shouldn't do on vacation?
Speaker 2:Well, not so much don't do on vacation, but don't neglect to do some things with your children before you're empty nesters and before you go on in life Because you want to create those memories.
Speaker 2:You know, because we know we all have challenges in families and you know children grow up and they begin to get their own identity and they find out what they like and what they don't like. But just taking the time out to build memories where there was laughter and there was some great meals and just being in the car together or flying together, whatever it is, just don't neglect that time to spend time with our kids and our time with family.
Speaker 1:That's good. I do have one vacation. Don't Don't take your work with you on vacation. Yes, I know people call it a working vacation, but I feel like that's a lie from hell. I feel like a working vacation is not a real thing. I don't think God ordained this whatsoever. I believe it's of the devil. I believe it came out of the pit of Hades. I don't believe working vacation is a real thing. Never take your work.
Speaker 1:If you have a laptop that you use for work, leave that thing at home. If you have a book or something you write in that pertains to your job a binder, a folder leave it at home. Don't allow it to be a part of your vacation, because it will suck the life out of your vacation. It will suck the life out of the time that you can spend with your family and your leisure time and even your ability to rest. Yes, you'll be sitting there thinking about work and you're supposed to be on vacation If it's related to work. Even if it's a cell phone that you use for work, only leave that bad boy at home. Leave that bad boy at home. Don't take nothing with you that reminds you of work. Go where you're going to be going, spend time with your loved one or your family and have the rest time and the leisure time to hear and listen and rest. Any other do's or don'ts for vacation.
Speaker 2:One of the things I think you should do is take that time to just evaluate before you get back home. It could be that last day, just for a few minutes, of all the things you're going to change and release so that you won't carry that load. So you would know what it means to have a vacation and to rest, you know. Finish those little tasks during the day and learn how to rest even on vacation.
Speaker 1:I like it. I like it Any of the do's and don'ts for vacation. I think we made so many mistakes we should have a whole episode full of them. Yeah, just, I mean, have long-term thinking when it comes to that. I mean, you know, the queen mentioned, you know, going to Alaska on a cruise. We got a couple of offers to do that but financially it didn't make sense in the timing. But we should be thinking long-term. Now that she mentioned it, I'm like, okay, we should be thinking about that kind of stuff. Okay, we know somebody who can help us get that done agency-wise.
Speaker 1:But when do we start planning? We start planning now for it, even if you don't see it right on the horizon. We start planning for Alaska right now. How many days is it going to be? Probably about seven to eight days, probably maybe even ten. I think is how it normally about six to seven days. So we start planning. We got an idea how much it's going to cost us you know what I'm saying and we got an idea of what itinerary looks like. We have all that stuff taken care of for us.
Speaker 1:Start planning ahead, because we know that you know what in this year we're going to go on a cruise to Alaska, you know, and start planning. That's something that it sounds easy and maybe you guys already do it, but that is a critical, critical part of our process and how we're growing and how our vacations are much better because we've been planning. But any other closing thoughts about this incredible topic. This has been fun to talk. Our vacations are much better because we've been planning. But any other closing thoughts about this incredible topic? This has been fun to talk about vacations.
Speaker 2:No, it just gave me some just going down memory lane making me just appreciate how much we've grown and where we're going and the plans that we're making for our future.
