Speaker 1:

The Carolina Panthers are here locally. I get to hear a lot from Carolina Panthers fans what they want to see, excuse me, what they're thinking about. We're going to definitely try to address some of those things. I think some of the biggest things that we're noticing and I know that the Panthers were almost near the bottom of the league last year and everybody kind of dumped them all year long, but they got a lot of nice pieces in place. It's not going to solve all their problems, but they're not gutting the entire team and the entire franchise out. They have some places to make some moves and to build. They have some depth issues in some spaces, like in the safety position. They really lack in depth there. So they've got to dig into either the draft or free agency or some undrafted guys that don't get picked up in next April. But cornerback, defensive tackle, edge rusher and wide receiver are four of their main issues. Defense is a problem overall. So anybody we can get to push the guys that are there that may be underperforming. We're definitely going to do that. So I think with about three or four rounds for this mock draft, I think we have I would probably say we have about four to five players that's going to pop up here. So we're going to be definitely trying to get at least four or five guys on this roster, which is fine.

Speaker 1:

This is going to be fun. We know what we're looking for. With the first round, I'm trying to find that playmaking wide receiver. In the second round, perhaps somebody to fill out at cornerback. They need that. If I can get a safety there too, I'll definitely take that as well.

Speaker 1:

Uh, and of course, for the next two rounds or so, a defensive tackle, a one-stopper and, of course, some guys that rush the passer. Their past win rate last year was, I think, 31st at the bottom or near the bottom, so you need to have an edge rusher. Matter of fact, make it two. So I'm trying to help them out with this mock draft excuse me see if we can get all of these things that they need on hand. So let's go ahead and run through this carolina panthers draft. This should be fun. See what we can find, all right, so they're trying to get us at our eighth pick.

Speaker 1:

I doubt very highly I'm coming out of this eighth pick especially for this mock, so they're going to have to wow me with something a lot better than what we're seeing right here. So, and obviously some folks really want that eighth pick badly Same thing, but I'm going to pass. I think the guy that I want to see is hanging around, so I can't believe he's there, but I think this is a alright. So let's see, we try to find a guy that we're looking for here with the number a pick. Ah, this is a toughie. Um, it's really hard to look past some of the talent that's gonna be available right here, and I doubt very highly that they're gonna enjoy looking past this ball of a player here. I know that he's a running back, but I'm sitting here debating oh, most of my friends in my ear now I could run it back, probably fine. They like Trouba Hubbard, they like Brooks and Miles Sanders is fine as a third string back there. I'm going to avoid the temptation. I know Ashton Gentry is right here for the taking. I'm surprised he's down that far.

Speaker 1:

I've been looking to get McMillan but he popped off ahead of time, so I'm going to go ahead and get luther burden, the third right here. Uh, this guy is long rangy, fantastic wide receiver. I think that's going to be a big help to bryce young, who they basically betting on right now to have a comeback and, honestly feeling, can't be the number one guy forever. I didn't mention, uh, xavier leggett for a. I don't see him as a wide receiver one. I think he's complimentary, so we need to have somebody who can be the wide receiver one when Thielen is out of here. So for me, I think Luther Burden although we reached a little bit to get him is going to help them out in this regard. Honestly, I probably should get another wide receiver too, but I'll hold off on that for now. All right, so we're looking at you guys gonna help him out. Okay, this is good. This is good. I think this is good. All right, I don't want to reach too far here, all right. So here I, here I'm, he's still available.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to go ahead and take Caleb Johnson here. Honestly, there's a big need for him in this, in this particular offense. I, like Trouba Hubbard, I'm not in love with Jonathan Brooks and I don't know whether he's going to come back off the injury the way we think he is. So, at this point. The only way that Bryce Jones is going to be able to make it is if he has as many playmakers as possible, if he can get the ball out of his hands quickly and make plays, and I feel like this is a bit of a reach. I'm gambling with the Panthers' money here by getting Caleb Johnson, but I think it may pay off in the end. I'm not confident that Bruce is going to come in and push Hubbard in any way and be anything beside, maybe a backup, if he's even healthy enough to do that the kind of injury that he had. People don't always come back from it right away. So there's the issue with protection. I kind feel like caleb johnson will kind of help out. I believe he catches passes as well, so we're going to go ahead and keep on moving.

Speaker 1:

Uh, I'm going to probably stay away from offense for the rest of this mock draft. Start looking at guys on the line and look who's sitting around there waiting for us. I can't believe he's there, but he's right there. Look at it. Alfred collins, dt out of texas. The panthers need one. I'm taking this guy dominate. One defender definitely has a lot of upsides of pass rushes, so with the right coaching he may be able to become that. And then some has a great size, great motor, all you can ask for. He's fluid, honestly, he's uh. There's some room for improvement on the pass rushing side, but that can be fixed. I think this guy is a keeper, so I think the pence will be really happy to have him running around.

Speaker 1:

So we got wide receiver, we didn't get our cornerback yet. We didn't get our edge rusher yet. I don't think Collins is it just yet. We can go ahead and try to find a guy to help us out in that regard. Oh, david Walker's a good guy here out of Central Arkansas. He didn't see a lot of the top competition, but he had a lot of the measurables that you would be looking for. Probably his name a good bit more if you go to the combine, but I like him here.

Speaker 1:

I think the Panthers can do worse with a fourth round pick. I think they're in a good spot, all right. So we have one more pick left and honestly I'm thinking that we may need to be thinking about trying to get either another edge or maybe somebody at safety here. So I promise you we're going to stay on the defensive side, but I'm hesitant about Billy Bowman, because I think they have him listed as a linebacker and that's not exactly what they're needing right now. So I am going to probably stay away from this particular one and see if we can do anything to help the Panthers out at safety. Excuse me, outside of this gentleman here, jalen Reed I mean he has the size. I'm hesitant. That's not the first time that's happened. Let me just last pick work well for these guys here. Oh, I think that we're going to go outside of the box here. We're going to get this edge.

Speaker 1:

Rusher out of Miami Saw some real great things out of Tyler Barron 6'4", 262. And the man can run Run to 4'6" so he can chase down opposing running backs and wide receivers if he has to, which I like. I think it gives flexibility to Carolina the way they play. I'm going to take him here. And is that my last pick? Sure is Okay. So the first pick Luther Burden III out of Missouri my last pick sure is okay. So the first pick Luther Burden III out of Missouri.

Speaker 1:

Caleb Johnson, running back at Iowa, is going to back up Huber Hubbard and perhaps push Jonathan Brooks some, if not at least make him even more marketable for a trade and Carolina would definitely embrace that. If Johnson pans out Alfred Collins one stop back, he's got a potential to be a pass rusher. They work on that. They have a dynamic team with him and David Walker on the other side. I like how that's looking Right now. Jadavion Clowney is their number one edge rusher. Honestly, you don't want that. Tyler Barron, the other guy at the edge, kind of helped push that defensive line core and gave me some pass rushing to help Bryce Young out on the other side. I like how it looks.
