The Washington Commanders surprised everyone with last year's 12-5 record, building around rookie QB Jaden Daniels with one-year contracts that paid off tremendously. We analyze how the Commanders can sustain this success through strategic draft picks that address their defensive needs.

• Commanders acquired Deebo Samuel from the 49ers and Laramie Tunsell from the Texans to bolster the offense
• Zach Ertz returns at tight end after establishing strong chemistry with Daniels
• Bobby Wagner and Javon Kinlaw strengthen the defense, but the departure of Dante Fowler Jr. leaves a hole in pass rush

Speaker 1:

Welcome back to T3. I'm your host, mr U. Normally we are on, of course, every Thursday night at 7 pm EST. Our crew is talking NFL the majority of the time, but all sports, but mainly NFL. But we're doing a series of mock drafts out of our T3 brand and today's team is the Washington Commanders. They are the rivals in the NFC East for our New York football giants, who we love dearly.

Speaker 1:

But credit where credit is due, man, the Washington Commanders. They came out smoking last year. They basically bet with house money, with a lot of the moves that they made, a lot of guys on one-year deals and kind of just stacking the deck to give Daniels all the help that he can get, and he capitalized on it, set multiple rookie records last year 12-5. They were in second place and definitely were almost a threat to do what many thought was impossible and almost get into the NFC title game. But it was not to be Fantastic team nonetheless. They may not have a lot of needs on paper, but a lot of guys again are on one year. So you got to replace those guys or bring them back. I believe Bobby Wagner was one of those guys. They are definitely bringing him back into the fold, from what I'm understanding. I don't see the numbers right in front of me, but definitely they're making some moves. They brought in Deebo Samuel from the 49ers Big boost alongside Terry McLaurin to help out Daniels in that offense and of course Laramie Tunsell up front out of the Houston Texans. He had some up and down seasons in Houston but obviously he's, I'd probably say, a lot more happier than CJ Shroud is right now because Tunstall's there. So they brought Zach Ertz back to help out also. He definitely had a resurgence at tight end, which I'm glad to see. He was on the Cardinals and the Eagles prior to that. But he's done a great job with the Commanders. I'm sure Jaden Daniels loves him a lot. So do the commanders. I'm sure Jaden Daniels loves him a lot. So does the fans.

Speaker 1:

They brought in Javon Kinlaw from the Niners I believe it is no, from the Jets, excuse me and some other bodies coming in too. And there's some guys that they brought in that didn't do a lot of work. Marshawn Lattimore from the Saints came in with a lot of experience, but from the Saints Came in with a lot of experience but he didn't meet team expectations. I think he contributed to one of the worst passer ratings they've had in quite a while. So it wasn't great. But they also lost Dante Fowler Jr, which was their main pass rusher.

Speaker 1:

So today we're going to try to help out with a few rounds here for the Washington Commanders, and I know definitely I'm looking at Ed Rusher first. I got a guy in mind. I know it helps them. I know that in helping them it doesn't help our Giants, but we're doing a draft and we're being impartial for the Washington Commanders so we can go ahead and help this team out with some needs that they have. And we got the Commanders set and ready to roll. They have, wow, two picks 29 and 61. It's going to be a short mock draft. I'm going to get the guys that we need. So we're not, definitely not trading back. It's not on that pick. Anyways, I might trade back on the last one and get some, uh, additional help here. Ooh, chargers are off in 55-86. I miss out on the guy I think is still available, so I don't want to do that. Oh, he got taken right before me. This thing must have read my mind. I knew what I was going after. We're going for Donovan Azurical. Wow, that sucks. But guess what? We're still on track because this guy right here we're grabbing him a little bit early but I'm surprised he's been still here at 37. I'm going to take him at 29 for the commanders Mike Green, adam Marshall, fantastic edge rusher guy All of the sides.

Speaker 1:

You want 63, 251,. He's a beast If he has pure pass rush skills, man. I mean he's explosive agile. I mean he's the kind of guy that you know he had 15 sack seasons in five sack years, or I guess that's what his ability is, what he thinks he can do Some issues with consistency. But I think that the coaches at Washington can help him resolve some of those things. He definitely has the effort. We're going to bring him in man. It's going to help out the commanders immediately because we only have one pick left.

Speaker 1:

Unless the trade is really good, I'm going to stay at cornerback or on defensive tackle. I think that they have some opportunities for their defensive line. I know they just brought in Javon Kinlaw so that may solve some of those things. Alongside Deron Payne, doris Armstrong is an edge or defensive end that came from Dallas. I haven't seen a whole lot of him. Last year Cleveland Ferrell was there too, from San Fran, so they got guys that can help out. Bobby Wagner's back. Frankie Louvre, who was definitely a find last year from Carolina. That man played linebacker. Better not see anybody do in quite a long time. So I'm excited about this.

Speaker 1:

I like this grade a little bit 61 for a 73 and a 110. I think I'm going to take it. I'm going to try to help this team out. I'm going to take this trade here and see if I can try to help out. No, we're not going to do that. All right, so here we are. We already got Edge taken care of. I believe I don't think we need to do anything else there. We're going to go ahead.

Speaker 1:

Where's my pick? Oh, wow, I might have just messed over the uh, the commanders. I didn't mean to. I thought I had two picks, all right. So let's look at defensive tackle. Oh, I love alfred collins. Uh, definitely a great run defender. There's some issues on pat on pass rush'm going to leave that to coaching.

Speaker 1:

6'5" 332. He has all the tools out of Texas. He definitely helped Texas go as far as it did last year. Has all the tools. I mean, he's fierce as a defender. I like him here. I'm not super enthusiastic, but I like him here. I like him a lot better than what I have in front of me. I'm already knocked out. Mike Green and Alfred Collins these guys, the commanders, have so many good things going on as far as depth and guys that are still in the contract, they don't need a whole lot of help. I'll try to help them a little bit with Mike Green out of Marshall at Edge and then Alfred Collins out of Texas Two great names, definitely two top 50 players for sure. So I think this helps them out greatly.

Speaker 1:

Let me know what you think about the mock draft. I know I botched that third pick my bad on that one but let me know what you think. Did Mike Green and Alfred Collins make this mock draft a positive A draft? Collins, make this mock draft a positive a draft? Let me know what you think about that. I'd love to hear back from you on your thoughts on that and if you are checking us out on our YouTube channel, please like, share, subscribe while you're there and drop that draft grade in the comments. Let me know what you think about what we did with Mike Green and Alfred Collins for the Washington Commanders. Thanks for continuing to watch and continuing to listen. Many more mock drafts coming up. We got to finish all 32. We we're close, but not quite there yet. Keep watching.
